Kai Ikaika Paddling Club Vision Statement

The mission of the Kai Ikaika Paddling Club is to promote Polynesian outrigger canoe paddling by educating our membership and the community at large about the Hawaiian culture, values and traditions and to promote competitive and recreational outrigger canoe and dragon boat paddling.

To ensure the club upholds this vision, there are certain obligations each member must adhere to. Below are the expectations that are fundamental for achieving these goals.

Every Kai Ikaika member and prospective member agrees to uphold the following Code of Conduct while paddling with the club.

Kai Ikaika Paddler Code of Conduct

I will treat myself, fellow club members, competing clubs members and the general community with respect, honesty, fairness and aloha.

I will not engage in any violent behavior or abuse others mentally, emotionally or physically in any way. This includes but is not limited to the use of profanity, vulgar language, racial slurs or demeaning comments.

I will not act in such a way that will reflect poorly upon Kai Ikaika Paddling Club.

I will show respect for the environment, especially the rivers and waterways on which we paddle.

I will strive to achieve my personal best physically, emotionally and mentally and support others in this effort.

I will strive to promote the primary club purposes outlined in the clubs mission statement.

I will participate in and support all club events and assist fellow members to the best of my ability.

I will strive to make all new members and guests of Kai Ikaika feel welcome and comfortable in our club.

I will respect the canoes and equipment and ensure their protection and safety.

I will respect the rights and property of others.

I will pay my dues on time.

I will keep the best interest of the club and crews before personal aspirations.

I will become a student of the paddling sport and learn the rules of behavior when in and around a canoe.

I will attend scheduled practices and notify my crew caption or coach when not able.

I will communicate all matters of concern to the club officers and board members for proper handling and remedy.

All paddlers acknowledge that, having read and committed to each code of conducts above, they agree to adhere to these rules at all practices, races, fundraisers, other club events, or when representing my club in public. They understand that they will be held accountable for their behavior and that any violations of the above code of conduct may present ground for exclusion from race crews, suspension of membership or expulsion from the club.
