That’s right, it’s time for the 2016 Kai Ikaika annual membership meeting. Come down and join us on Sunday, January 24th from 11am-1pm at the Buffalo Gap Saloon and Eatery (6835 SW Macadam Ave, Portland). This meeting is open to all current Kai Ikaika members as well as non-members who are interested in joining the club. We’ll discuss the 2016 winter and summer race schedules, practice times, the status of our equipment, canoes, dock space, etc. We’ll also nominate and vote on open officer and board positions.

Be sure to come prepared with your check book or cash to get a head start on paying your 2016 membership dues and fees. We’ll also have a blow-out sale of all our left over Kai logo gear. Wahoo!

See you all there!

The 2015 Gorge Outrigger Race Recap – Hot and FLAT!

Kai Ikaika competed in the Gorge Outrigger Races over the weekend, hosted by WaterWalker. The water conditions were uncharacteristically FLAT this year with a surprising east wind which made the normally downwinder portion of the race an “upwinder” against the current. On top of that, the weather was hot, hot hot! – with temperatures soaring to near triple digits by the end of the mixed and women’s races. Many kudos go out to all the teams that competed this year and slogged through the hot, mucky race course. Thankfully, the wind picked back up a little and many folks got a few downwind runs in on small boats and SUPS on Sunday.

Kai Ikaika men took third overall and second place in the Men’s Masters division with a time of 1:12:42. A second Kai Ikaika Men’s Masters team placed 4th in the division with a time of 1:18:10. View a complete list of the men’s results here.

Kai Ikaika women came in fourth with a time of 1:30:50 and the Kai Ikaika mixed crew took 6th in their division with a time of 1:28:56. View a complete list of the women’s and mixed race results here.

As usual the weekend was full of good times, great friends and lots of camping fun with our paddling Ohana. Can’t wait for next year… fingers crossed that we’ll get some wind in 2016.

A few race shots from our good friends over at Outrigger Zone.
