PNWORCA Winter Series Race #6 – Hosted by Kai Ikaika Paddling Club!

Don’t miss the 2016 Kai Ikaika winter series race coming up on Saturday, March 19th! Dues to a last-minute construction update from PGE, we have moved the race from our traditional spot in downtown Portland (on the west bank of the Willamette River across from the River Place Marina) to just a few minute south at George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego. PNWORCA 2016 Winter Series Race #3 Coming up in Kalama on February 6th

Port of Kalama, PNW ORCA 2016 Winter Series, Small Boats race #3

Date:  Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016  
Where: Louis Rasmussen Park, 268 Hendrickson, Kalama WA 98625

Race Description:  The race is on a very fast course with strong downstream currents in the main channel and weaker upstream currents in a back channel behind Sand Island.  It will start/finish about ½ mile upstream from the world’s tallest totem pole and proceed downstream to the bottom of Sand Island. It will continue behind the island to its upper end and finish on a downstream leg to the start/finish line.  The course is approx. 6.0 miles.  This is the 3rd of 7 races in the Winter Series, with the first 5 place finishers in each division earning points for end of season awards.

Registration:  This is a PNW-ORCA race, insured by ACA and will follow their safety procedures.   All participants must register and sign the ACA waiver.

Non-ACA paddlers must complete the ACA Event Only Application and waiver in order to enter race and pay the $10 additional fee.

Facilities:  The start beach can be reached by vehicle for off -loading boats with nearby blacktop off road parking. There is one porta-john at the start beach, with additional permanent restroom, changing and shower facilities also in the park.   Hot soup and bread provided at no charge to all racers.

Entry Fee:   $15.00 per paddler.

Directions:  Race registration is on the south end of Louis Rasmussen Park 268 Hendrickson, Kalama, WA 98625.

Very easy access and return from I-5  
Approaching from the north on I-5:
Take Exit 30 toward Kalama 0.4 mi
Turn right onto OAK ST 0.05 mi
Take 1st Left on HENDRICKSON DR 0.9 mi
Again 1st Left on HENDRICKSON DR 0.08 mi

Approaching from the south on I-5:
Take Exit 27 toward TODD RD 0.3 mi
Turn left onto ROBB RD 0.1 mi
Turn Right onto to TOEFF RD 0.2 mi
Take 1st Right onto N HENDRICKSON DR.1.9 mi

2016 Kai Ikaika Annual Meeting – YIPPIE!!

Jump for joy! It’s meeting time!

That’s right, it’s time for the 2016 Kai Ikaika annual membership meeting. Come down and join us on Sunday, January 24th from 11am-1pm at the Buffalo Gap Saloon and Eatery (6835 SW Macadam Ave, Portland). This meeting is open to all current Kai Ikaika members as well as non-members who are interested in joining the club. We’ll discuss the 2016 winter and summer race schedules, practice times, the status of our equipment, canoes, dock space, etc. We’ll also nominate and vote on open officer and board positions.

Be sure to come prepared with your check book or cash to get a head start on paying your 2016 membership dues and fees. We’ll also have a blow-out sale of all our left over Kai logo gear. Wahoo!
